Same 100,000 Citi points, $500 or $1,000 in cash
What are your points really worth? The one-minute answer.
What your Citi or Amex points pay in cash depends on which cards you hold.
| 100,000 points | Cards you hold | Cash |
|---|---|---|
| Citi | Strata (no annual fee) only | $500 |
| Citi | Strata Premier, Strata Elite or Prestige | $750 |
| Citi | Any Strata card plus a Double Cash or Custom Cash, accounts combined | $1,000 |
| Amex | Most cards, as a statement credit | $600 |
| Amex | Schwab Platinum, paid into a Schwab account | $1,100 |
What to do
- Have a Citi Strata card and a Double Cash or Custom Cash? Combine the two ThankYou accounts (you need to be the main cardholder on both). All your points then cash out at the best card's rate: $1,000 per 100,000 instead of $500 or $750.
- Have the Schwab Platinum? Cash out through Schwab, not as a statement credit: $500 more per 100,000, for up to 1,000,000 points a year.
- Neither? Don't open a card just for this. Annual fees and how you spend matter more.
Rates change: Citi already cut one (Strata Premier, August 24, 2025). Confirm with the bank before you cash out. Not financial advice.
